Kew accepts Echinopsis macrogona, native to Bolivia and Peru. Its synonyms include Trichocereus macrogonus, Trichocereus peruvianus and Echinopsis peruviana.
Why the source label still matters
A taxonomic merger does not tell you which seed population or named clone a nursery plant came from. Read the peruvianus grower’s reference and preserve both the received name and its later determination.
