Kew places Lophophora williamsii var. decipiens Croizat in synonymy under L. williamsii. That placement does not authenticate a cultivated plant merely bearing “decipiens.”

Avoid automatic relabelling

Historical uses of “decipiens” need the actual specimen and its source record to interpret. The label alone is insufficient for a new determination. Keep the received name and add a separately dated determination only when supported.
