Kew accepts Leucostele terscheckii, native from Bolivia to northwestern Argentina. Trichocereus terscheckii and Echinopsis terscheckii are synonyms in that treatment.
A column that becomes a tree
Britton and Rose described plants becoming extensively branched with age, reaching 10–12 metres, with eight to fourteen ribs, yellow spines and large white flowers. Those dimensions describe the mature habit in that account. A small potted specimen gives little impression of the eventual space and handling requirements.

A garden tree needs long-term planning
Plan a position around mature size, strong spines, access and future handling. Cold survival reports from established landscape specimens do not establish a safe temperature for a small container plant.
